Mykonos is renowned for its stunning beaches, each offering its own slice of paradise. From the lively shores of Paradise and Super Paradise, where beach parties and world-famous DJs keep the energy high, to the tranquil sands of Agios Sostis and Lia Beach, there’s a perfect spot for every kind of beach lover. The crystal-clear turquoise waters and golden sands create an idyllic setting for relaxation, swimming, and water sports.

Charming Mykonos Town (Chora)

The heart of Mykonos is the enchanting Mykonos Town, also known as Chora. Its maze-like streets are lined with whitewashed buildings adorned with vibrant blue doors and bougainvillaea flowers. Explore the charming alleyways, where you’ll find boutique shops, art galleries, and cosy cafes. The iconic windmills and the Little Venice (also called Alefkandra) area, with its waterfront bars and restaurants, provide perfect photo opportunities and a taste of the island’s unique charm.

Rich History and Culture

Poppy’s Travel Diary - Mykonos

While Mykonos is famous for its beaches and nightlife, it also offers a rich cultural experience. The island’s history dates back to ancient times, and you can explore fascinating archaeological sites and museums. The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos and the Aegean Maritime Museum offer insights into the island’s storied past. Additionally, the nearby island of Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just a short boat ride away and is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.

Delicious Greek Cuisine

Greek cuisine is celebrated worldwide, and Mykonos offers an array of dining experiences that will delight your taste buds. Enjoy fresh seafood at a beachside taverna, savour traditional dishes like moussaka and souvlaki, and indulge in local specialties such as kopanisti (spicy cheese spread) and louza (cured pork). The island’s restaurants range from casual eateries to gourmet dining establishments, ensuring a memorable culinary journey.

We couldn’t fault the restaurant at Myconian Imperial who have cultivated ties to local farmers and fishermen who supply us with the freshest seasonal ingredients and organic produce.

Luxurious Accommodations

Poppy’s Travel Diary - Mykonos

Mykonos is home to some of the most luxurious hotels and villas in Greece. Whether you’re looking for a five-star resort with stunning sea views, a boutique hotel in the heart of Chora, or a private villa with its own infinity pool, the island offers accommodations that cater to every taste and budget. Many of these establishments provide top-notch amenities and exceptional service, ensuring a comfortable and lavish stay.

The Royal Myconian was a joy to stay in for total relaxation. A luxury resort with privileged views over the longest fine sand beach on Mykonos. You have the chance to explore their state-of-the art spa, sample high culinary artistry at their panoramic restaurant and dive into their spectacular pool to have a seat and ice-cold cocktail at their swim-up bar.

Stray cats on Mykonos

Poppy’s Travel Diary - Mykonos

One of the unique charms of Mykonos is its vast population of stray cats, estimated to outnumber the human inhabitants! These feline residents have become an integral part of the island’s identity, and it’s easy to lose oneself in the winding alleys filled with sleeping cats.

Many cafes, restaurants and locals have opened these doors to these homeless cats, providing them with food and shelter, however when the tourist season ends, many businesses close and the cats must fend for themselves. There are some animal shelters and cat rescue organisations that are dedicated to the wellbeing and care of the islands stray cat population.

Picturesque Sunsets

No visit to Mykonos is complete without witnessing its breath-taking sunsets. The island’s west-facing position offers spectacular views as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the Aegean Sea. Head to the famous 180° Sunset Bar or the Armenistis Lighthouse for some of the best sunset views on the island, or simply find a quiet spot on the beach to enjoy this daily natural spectacle.

Warm Hospitality

The warmth and hospitality of the Mykonian people add an extra layer of charm to your visit. The locals are known for their friendliness and willingness to share their love for their island. Whether you’re chatting with a shopkeeper in Chora or enjoying a meal at a family-run taverna, you’ll feel welcomed and at home.

Mykonos is a destination that effortlessly combines natural beauty, cultural richness, and vibrant energy. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing beach holiday, a cultural adventure, or a lively party scene, Mykonos has something for everyone. Its captivating landscapes, luxurious accommodations, and the genuine warmth of its people make it a must-visit destination. Pack your bags and get ready to create unforgettable memories on this enchanting Greek island.
