Colour me Beautiful Colour Analysis

Colour me Beautiful Colour Analysis – Colour has always been an important factor to me, whether it is the clothes I wear, the shades of a room, the tones of the sunset, or the food I eat.

Colour is inspirational, it is mood provoking, it is creative, and it is everywhere and should be embraced.

Colour me Beautiful Colour Analysis

Having recently met with Cliff Bashforth CEO of Colour me Beautiful, image consultants and personal stylists, my son and I both had the pleasure of experiencing a colour analysis, with an unexpected outcome. Although we both favoured a certain colour palette, when colours were broken down into shades, it revealed far more than we were expecting! Now knowing that we both favour darker tones, my trusted white and light grey tops have certainly had to be refashioned.

Colour can have a huge impact on how we look, how we feel and how others perceive us, so it is vital to wear your colours, rather than the colour wears you.

What is the principle of colour analysis?

Colour Analysis is a term often used within the cosmetics and fashion industry to describe a method of determining the colours of clothing and makeup that harmonise with a person’s skin complexion, eye colour, and hair colour with the benefit of being able to use this tool for wardrobe planning and style consulting.

Colour analysis demonstrates how certain shades are capable of being flattering or, conversely, unflattering by observing the optical illusions that occur on the face when placing specific colours next to the individual. It is generally agreed that the wrong colours will draw attention to such flaws as wrinkles or uneven skin tone while harmonious colours will enhance the natural beauty of the individual making them appear healthy and fresh-faced.

What are the Colour me beautiful colour analysis principles?

If you look at the colour wheel displaying the four seasons, the Spring and Autumn palettes both contain all ‘warm’ shades. So, an individual with warm colouring (Stacey Dooley, for example) can wear many of these colours as they have a ‘yellow’ undertone.

At Colour Me Beautiful, their consultants demonstrate (to the client) whether they are better in the clearer warm shades, or the softer, more muted hues. Describe that person as either a Warm/Clear (Warm Spring) or Warm/Soft (Warm Autumn).

The Summer and Winter palettes contain ‘cool’ shades – therefore, if someone has cool colouring (e.g., Jamie Lee Curtis), they present them with their cool palette and then test to see whether they need clarity Cool and Clear (Cool Winter), or softness, Cool and Soft (Cool Summer).

The Winter and Autumn palettes have more ‘depth,’ therefore, if an individual has deeper colouring (e.g., Natalie Portman), they check to see whether they are more suited to the warmer shades, Deep and Warm (Deep Autumn), or cooler tones, Deep and Cool (Deep Winter).

The Spring and Summer palettes have an overall ‘lighter’ look (e.g., Gwyneth Paltrow) compared to Autumn and Winter. So, they test to see if a client has a warmer skin tone, Light and Warm (Light Spring), or is cooler Light and Cool (Light Summer).

When you view the Spring and Winter palettes, one notices that they both contain clearer rather than muted shades. So, quite simply, if someone has clear/bright colouring (e.g., Sophie Ellis-Bextor), their consultants already know that muted tones would be disastrous, so they test and help the client understand that firstly, they need clear colours, and then demonstrate whether she (or he) would be better wearing the Clear and Warm hues (Clear Spring), or the Clear and Cool shades (Clear Winter).

And finally, Autumn and Summer are related because they both contain muted/softer shades. Therefore, if an individual has soft colouring (e.g., Kate Winslet), the only two options are Soft and Warm (Soft Autumn) or Soft and Cool (Soft Summer).

The result: every single client leaves a consultation with a swatch wallet that contains shades that are all fabulous, complementary and with a few additional guidelines, that are unique to that individual.

Personally, the colour swatch has been invaluable and the perfect guide when revisiting my old wardrobe and shopping for new additions. Also, I really do believe that shopping mistakes will become a thing of the past.

The Colour me Beautiful book has also been a super guide and reference book, which I can refer to time and time again.

Colour analysis tip:

You may have fashion favourites, which may not be as complimentary as you had hoped, however adding accessories to your outfit, can transform your look. A scarf is a perfect example, a scarf thrown, draped, or tied near your face has an immediate effect on completing your attire, alternatively, a nice piece of jewellery can also have the same effect.
