Achieving Perfect Balance
The beauty industry’s offered products leave many of us totally confused when searching for the ideal skin care.
What we need are natural ingredients, which have effective results, but finding them with a wellness benefit too is a tough task.
Having been recently reacquainted with the British brand Samaya, whose philosophy is offering a different approach, I found their brand both different and really worth considering.
Formulated in accordance with Ayurvedic principles, where ingredients are chosen for their ability to pacify and balance particular types of constitutions, SAMAYA is a holistic skincare brand. That means they aim to help you achieve wellness and the perfect balance in your life, achieving harmony between the mind, body and soul. With those three elements in balance you will be able to feel the positive effect on your health and wellbeing; both internally and externally.
Dosha is the name given to the energies that govern every individual. Being aware of our dosha type means we can make choices to help balance these energies to achieve wellness, peace and calm, all of which contribute to younger-looking, stress-free, beautiful skin.
There are primarily three types of dosha: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each corresponds to a set of physical and emotional traits. Often one dosha dominates, however some individuals find that a combination of two, or in rare cases all three; doshas best define their character.
Vata – Energetic and creative in balance, but worried, tired and indecisive when out of balance is that where you are probably of slender build and suffers from cold hands and feet. You will tends to have delicate dry skin and hair, which may need extra moisturising and nourishment to keep it glowing and healthy.
Pitta – is probably a well-proportioned and compact build, with a focused mind and a love of order. You’ll likely be confident and passionate, enjoying challenges but prone to anger and impatience when out of balance. You will benefits from gentle skincare, as skin can be sensitive and irritable, susceptible to wrinkles, sunburn and inflammation.
Kapha – You will probably be laidback and easy-going with a stable, steady energy level and have a strong physical frame but can be lethargic or apathetic if out of balance. You’ll take a relaxed, reasonable approach to life and can be compassionate, gentle and kind. Your skin will be thick and pale, can be radiant and glowing, but with clogged pores or excess oil when out of balance.
For each dosha type, the SAMAYA range includes a luxurious, rich Hydrating Cleanser (£69/100ml) , a powerful Anti-Ageing Cream (£89/50ml) and an indulgent Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil (£79/30ml), which all help to contribute to healthier, radiant looking skin.
I tried the Pitta anti-aging treatment oil. A concentrated blend of Ayuryedic botanicals and anti ageing ingredients, the oil targets the signs of skin aging, helping to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
I was immediately aware of the beautiful infusions of Jasmine, Neem, Lotus, Tumeric, Saffron, Shatavari and Gotu Kola all harnessed in a quick absorbing formula and here is an explanation of their benefits:
Jasmine Flower Extract
Beautiful aroma with proven mood-boosting effect; improves energy; reduces anxiety and stress; helps to balance moisture levels and increase skin’s elasticity while soothing mind and body; antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help protect skin.
Lotus Seed Extract
Sacred anti-inflammatory ingredient; contains zinc and anti-ageing enzymes which can repair damaged or sensitive skin while soothing and calming the mind; beneficial for blemish-prone skin.
Spilanthes Acmella (Paracress) Flower Extract

Promotes skin healing; helps reduce itching and roughness; purifies skin; neutralises damaging free radicals to help skin achieve a radiant glow.
Considered in Ayurvedic tradition to be the female equivalent to Ashwagandha, Shatavari’s name in Sanskrit translates as ‘she who possesses one hundred husbands.’ It has long been used as a tonic for female health concerns and as a means of reducing stress and tension. Shatavari also has nutritive and rejuvenative properties for skin, contributing towards a renewed, youthful appearance.
Gotu Kola Oil
Anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing herb; helps fight chronic skin conditions by repairing damage done to the skin; stimulates collagen production in the skin.
Valued for its skin toning abilities; can impart a natural radiance as it helps to reduce pigmentation; has mood-enhancing properties; is considered to be an aphrodisiac and is often used as a tonic to improve general health.
Turmeric Root Oil

Also known as Chrysanthemum parthenium and Midsummer Daisy, Feverfew is a good cooling and anti-inflammatory herb for Pitta constitutions. Historically, its relaxant and soothing properties have also led to its use in calming emotions.
I really enjoyed using this product and certainly feel the range should be on your radar if you are looking for some balance in your life!
